Blood Tests

Blood tests provide an overview of an animal’s health and is done in both healthy pets and sick pets. They help veterinarians assess your pet’s internal health, detect underlying conditions, and monitor the function of vital organs like the liver, kidneys, and pancreas. They can reveal issues that may not be apparent through a physical exam alone.

Common blood tests include a Complete Blood cell Count (CBC), and blood chemistry values. A CBC will give our vets vital information on your pet’s red and white blood cells and platelets; and can help to detect signs of many diseases and infections. Blood chemistry values will determine how your pet’s organs such as their kidneys, liver, and pancreas are performing. Other specific tests may assess thyroid function, glucose levels, or infections.

In some cases, yes. If the test requires accurate glucose or cholesterol readings, your pet may need to fast before the blood draw. Our veterinarians will let you know if fasting is necessary and the duration of the fast.

Routine blood tests processed in-house may return results within a few hours. For specialized tests, results can take a few days to a week. Our veterinarians will inform you of the duration before the blood test.
